RedHawk Skating Announces 2010-11 Schedule

OXFORD, Ohio-Miami University's synchronized skating teams unveiled their 2010-11 schedule, Head Coach Carla DeGirolamo announced today. In addition to their competition schedule, the RedHawks will perform during an intermission at six hockey games as well as holding two exhibitions in Oxford and skating in the annual Ice Show.
"I think we have a very balanced schedule, which will prepare us well for the U.S. National Championships," said DeGirolamo. "Our goal is always to win national championships and to have our teams qualify for the World competitions. Our programs are really coming together and I look forward to seeing our athletes make this a memorable year for Miami Skating."
Miami opens its competitive season at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., Dec. 4-5. All three teams will skate in the season-opening competition.
The junior team returns to action Jan. 7-8 at the 2011 World Junior Team Selection Competition in Fond du Lac, Wis. If the team finishes among the top two, the RedHawks will advance to the 2011 Synchronized Skating Junior World Challenge Cup in Neuchatel, Switzerland, March 11-13.
After a six-week break, the collegiate and senior teams return to the ice at the 2011 Mid-America Synchronized Skating Championships Jan. 15-16 in Fraser, Mich.
Making the first international trip of the season for the RedHawks is the junior team when they travel to Prague, Czech Republic, for the Prague Cup Jan. 28-30.
The collegiate team will represent Miami at the 2011 Midwestern Championships Feb. 4-6 in Rochester, Minn., before the senior team makes the program's second international trip of the season when they travel to Milan, Italy, for the Spring Cup Feb. 11-13.
All three teams head to the 2011 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Ontario, Calif., March 3-5. The senior team seeks to return to the world stage with a top-two finish at nationals. If the RedHawks finish among the top two, they will advance to the 2011 World Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland, April 8-9. The junior team looks to earn their second medal at the U.S. National Championships, while the six-time defending and 12-time national champion collegiate team seeks to remain atop their division.
The first time Miami will perform in 2010-11 will be at the Oct. 23 hockey game with the senior team skating at an intermission. The junior team will skate at the Oct. 29 hockey game. Miami's senior and collegiate teams will perform on respective nights at hockey's Nov. 12-13 weekend series. For hockey's Feb. 11-12 weekend series, the collegiate and junior teams will skate on respective nights.
Miami skating holds its first exhibition of the season at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. All three teams will be performing all of their competitive programs as part of their Parents Weekend Exhibition. The week prior to the U.S. National Championships, Miami Skating will hold a Nationals Send-Off Exhibition at 5 p.m. where all three teams again will perform all of their competitive programs. Both exhibitions will take place in Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The RedHawks' final performance of the 2010-11 campaign will be at the Annual Miami University Ice Show, which will be the weekend of April 15-16.
