MISSOULA, Mont. - Former Miami RedHawk Adam Eaton has wasted little time making an impression in his first season as a professional baseball player, as he was named Pioneer League Player of the Week on Wednesday for the week ending August 1. Eaton, a 19th-round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the June 2010 MLB Draft, plays for the Missoula Osprey, the rookie affiliate of the Diamondbacks.
During the week, Eaton went 8-for-16 at the plate (.500), with a double, a triple, two home runs, four runs batted in, seven runs scored and a stolen base. He also collected a .600 on-base percentage and slugged 1.063 in six games that week. He had a pair of multi-hit and multi-RBI contests each during that stretch, as well.
With his outburst, Eaton now leads the entire Pioneer League with a .400 batting average while also pacing the league with a .600 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage, which is nearly .100 points higher than any other player in the league. The Springfield, Ohio, native is also tied for the league lead with 38 runs scored and ranks in the top 15 in the Pioneer League in triples (3), home runs (5), stolen bases (16) and RBI (24).
Despite leaving after his junior season, Eaton still shattered Miami's career triples record with 18 and ranks fourth in career runs scored with 169, tied for fifth in stolen bases with 66, eighth in total bases with 364 and ninth in doubles with 45.
