Katie Bowling Hired as Synchronized Skating Assistant Coach

OXFORD, Ohio--Katie Bowling has been hired as an assistant coach with the Miami University Synchronized Skating program, Head Coach Carla DeGirolamo announced today.
Bowling was a four-year member of the Miami Senior Synchronized Skating Team and earned her bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in management from Miami in May 2010. While at Miami, she was a part of history as the RedHawks became the first team from the United States to ever medal at the ISU World Championships, earning a silver medal in 2007.
Bowling skated on Miami's 2009 National Championship team at the senior level and helped the Red and White to silver medals at the U.S. National Championships in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, she also represented the United States with Miami at the World University games in Torino, Italy. Additionally, she took home the team's top two awards at the 2010 banquet being named the senior team's 2010 Senior of the Year and also the senior team's Most Outstanding Skater.
"I am very excited to have Katie joining our staff," said DeGirolamo. "During her time as an athlete, Katie was an excellent leader and role model for the teams both on and off the ice. Her passion for the sport and for Miami Skating along with her solid work ethic and ambition make her a valuable addition to the synchronized skating staff and will certainly help us continue in our quest to win championships with `love and honor'."
A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Bowling was a member of the Hockette Junior Team prior to her time at Miami and was a three-time Junior World Team member.
