Student-Athletes Assist at Habitat for Humanity House

OXFORD, Ohio--Nearly 25 incoming Miami University freshmen from men's basketball, football and women's basketball spent their Saturday morning assisting with a Habitat for Humanity house in Oxford, Ohio.
From approximately 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 the student-athletes, as part of the Summer Bridge Program, assisted with yard work at a Habitat house. Academic coordinator Craig Bennett was there with the RedHawk student-athletes and worked with Jim Lipnickey of Habitat for Humanity to get the student-athletes involved. Assistant coaches from each sport also were there throughout the day.
Taking part in Saturday's service for Habitat for Humanity were incoming freshmen Jon Harris and Josh Sewell from men's basketball; Erica Anne Almady, Haley Robertson, Hannah Robertson and Kelsey Simon from women's basketball; and Delvin Becks, Orne Bey, Willie Culpepper, Julian Green, Dayonne Nunley, Trey Payne, Demetrius Quarles, Justin Strumph, Jeffrey Tanner, Dante Taylor, Allen Veazie, Mwanza Wamulumba, Dustin White, Travis Williams and Tracy Woods from football. Additionally, rising junior Ryan Kennedy and rising senior Nate Williams from football assisted in the community service effort.
As part of the Summer Bridge Program, student-athletes are exposed to various cultural and community service activities. Last weekend, the group visited the Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
