Although we celebrate the accomplishments and triumphs of our student-athletes and teams throughout the year in this weekly feature, we want to open today's Memorial Day edition by thanking all of those who are serving and have served this country and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The 2009-10 Miami Athletics' campaign concluded last week as baseball competed at the Mid-American Conference Tournament and eight track and field athletes competed at the NCAA Regionals.
Baseball (28-28; 13-14 MAC) wrapped up its season last week at the MAC Tournament. The No. 6 seed RedHawks fell in their opening game to No. 3 seed Toledo, 7-1. (RECAP) Miami ended its tournament run on Thursday with a 9-2 loss to No. 2 seed Kent State. (RECAP) Freshman pitcher freshman Mac Thoreson earned his first career Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week award last Tuesday for his three-hit, complete game in the May 20 series opener with Ohio. (RELEASE) Junior outfielder Adam Eaton was named to the 2010 All-Mid-American Conference Second Team. Eaton garnered All-MAC honors for the second straight season. He led the league in triples with eight and stolen bases with 30. His eight triples also tie the Miami single-season record, while giving him 17 for his career, which is a RedHawk record. (RELEASE)

Five members of the women's track and field team competed at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds last Thursday and Saturday. Junior Kelley Miller just missed qualifying for the NCAA Semifinal Round, as she finished 28th in the 1500m run in a school-record time of 4:26.39. Junior Katie Lenahan finished 38th in her 800m prelims in a time of 2:11.66. Sophomore Alexandra Roberts placed 36th in the shot put prelims as she had a heave of 46-11.75/14.32m. (RECAP) Senior Amanda Mirochna finished 31st in the 3000m steeplechase prelims in 10:54.54 on Saturday, while redshirt sophomore Rachel Patterson placed 27th in the 5000m run prelims in 17:01.10. Junior Michael McCarty was the first of three men's track and field athletes to participate in the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, placing 46th in the long jump prelims with a leap of 22-7.25/6.89m. (RECAP) Junior David Serrano attempted to make the national meet in the high jump last Friday. Serrano finished tied for 26th in the high jump with a clearance of 6-9/2.06m. He narrowly missed clearing 6-11 twice, which may have qualified him for the NCAA Championships, which went to a jump-off at a height of 6-11. (RECAP) Junior John Gausmann challenged in the discus event on Saturday. Gausmann finished 41st in the discus prelims with a heave of 153-1/46.66m. (RECAP)

Although spring sports are just wrapping up, national writers are already gearing up for the fall with their preseason predictions. Rising sophomore quarterback Zac Dysert is projected by CollegeFootballNews.com to be the Mid-American Conference's top quarterback in 2010. The website rated all 12 of the league's quarterbacks and Dysert was rated No. 1 by sportswriter Pete Fiutak.
Miami University alumni, friends and fans are invited to join Head Football Coach Michael Haywood and members of his staff at four different events: Columbus (June 14 at Buffalo Wild Wings), Dayton (June 15 at the Dayton Country Club), Richmond (June 16 at the Indiana Football Hall of Fame) and Cincinnati (June 22 at Willies Sports Café). The cost for each event is just $10 per person and attendees are requested to respond prior to one week before the date of the event, either by registering online, by emailing RWClub@muohio.edu or by calling (513) 529-HAWK.
