Final Results - Boilermaker Invitational
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Miami completed play at the Boilermaker Invitational Sunday in a ninth place tie. After finishing their final three holes of the second round, the RedHawks shot a third round of score of 24-over par to conclude the event at 36-over par. Illinois won the tournament with an overall score of 10-under par.
Scores were higher in the third round across the board as a wet course and another rain delay made for a challenging afternoon.
"The conditions were trying in the morning, but that weather was not why we played bad," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "After the rain delay, we didn't come out ready. We didn't stick to the game plan and attitude we had the last couple of weeks."
Nathan Sutherland was the top Miami finisher, earning his fifth top-10 finish of the season. He shot a final round 76 to finish in 10th place at three over par. Michael Drobnick also had a good tournament finishing tied for 23rd at seven over par. Craig Voorhees finished tied for 51st at 14-over par, while Blake English was right behind him in a tie for 57th at 15-over par. Brett Tomfohrde was 62nd at 18-over par.
Playing as an individual (meaning his scores did not count for the Miami team total), Ben Peacock finished 65th at 30-over par.
Next weekend for Miami is the 64th annual Mid-American Conference Tournament. The event is hosted by Kent State this year and will be played at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, Apr. 30-May 2. The teams will play 36 holes on Friday and follow it up with single rounds of 18 holes each on Saturday and Sunday.
"We are looking forward to next week," said Lubahn. "However if we are going to have any success, we are going to have to have better attitudes and focus during each shot."
