April 25, 2010

Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami softball team completed a series sweep of Bowling Green Sunday with a 3-2 victory. The RedHawks improve to 23-20 overall and 8-6 in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons fall to 10-20 overall and 6-8 in the MAC.

Bowling Green was able to score one unearned run in the top of the first off starter Jessica Simpson. Simpson settled down from there and kept the Falcons off the board for the remainder of the game, except for one solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. She finished with a complete game, giving up one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven.

Miami got its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordan McElroy led off the frame with a double to left center. Meghan Mawn followed with a walk. Bowling Green was able to retire the next two batters, leaving it up to Jenna McGivney. McGivney answered with a three-run home run down the left field line that was able to stay just to the right of the pole. It was her first homer of the season and proved to be enough to give the RedHawks the victory.

McGivney finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored. McElroy was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Miami returns to action next Friday when it travels to Western Michigan for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
