BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Miami extended its Mid-American Conference winning streak to 13 straight over two years Friday with a 4-3 win at Buffalo. After losing the doubles point, the RedHawks grabbed four singles wins to improve to 12-6 overall and 5-0 in MAC play.
Buffalo quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles, winning 8-4 at No. 3 and 8-5 at No. 1. Riekie Honiball and Cara Wald were able to win their match at No. 2, 8-5, but the point was already clinched.
Miami fell behind 2-0 after Laura Grace Mezher lost by a score of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6. Megan Martzolf ran her season-long winning streak to 18 matches by winning 6-4, 6-2, then Stephanie Danesis evened the match by taking a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Buffalo went back up, 3-2, with a win at No. 4, but Cara Wald and Anastasia Dracheva finished their matches with positive results, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 7-5, respectively.
Miami next heads to Akron Saturday for a first-place showdown with the Zips. Akron is enjoying its best season ever, holding a 16-1 overall record and No. 72 ranking. It is also 5-0 in league play.
