What a week ... a national champion, individual MAC Champions, a MAC Diving Coach of the Year, a MAC Diver of the Year, two teams concluding regular seasons and surging into postseason with another awaiting its conference tournament appearance and several other teams continuing the early portion of their schedules.

Congratulations to the collegiate synchronized skating team, who won the program's sixth-straight title and 12th overall in the division! The RedHawks competed at the U.S. National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., last weekend. In addition to the collegiate team's gold-medal finish, the senior team posted a third-place finish, while the junior team placed fifth.

Congratulations also go out to MAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year K.R. Li and MAC Diver of the Year Jimmy Beres! The RedHawks finished fourth at the MAC Championships last weekend. Freshman Alex Reinhardt captured individual MAC titles in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events, while Beres won the one-meter dive. Reinhardt and Beres were First-Team All-MAC selections, while Dave Brown, Chris Gunnels and Jason Hass earned Second-Team All-MAC plaudits.

Men's basketball and hockey received first-round byes for their respective conference tournaments, while women's basketball advances to the quarterfinals in Cleveland for the MAC Tournament with a thrilling 67-66 opening-round win over Northern Illinois on Saturday. Coincidentally, all three teams will face their final regular-season opponents this week with hockey hosting Ohio State in second-round CCHA Tournament action, men's basketball facing Buffalo in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday and women's basketball battling Bowling Green in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Men's basketball (13-17; 9-7 MAC) captured a 73-62 win over Buffalo last Thursday to put the RedHawks in a position for a first-round bye. (RECAP) With Kent State's win over Akron last Friday, Miami had the tie-breaker against Buffalo for the No. 4 seed in the MAC Tournament, advancing straight to Cleveland for the quarterfinals. (RELEASE) Buffalo defeated No. 12 seed Toledo on Sunday (RELEASE), advancing to face Miami in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Quicken Loans Arena.

Women's basketball (9-21; 6-10 MAC) was edged in the regular-season finale by Bowling Green, 63-58 (RECAP) but punched its ticket to Cleveland with a first-round win over Northern Illinois last Saturday in Oxford. (RECAP) Freshman Courtney Osborn recorded 18 points against the Huskies and became just the fifth player in program history--and the only freshman--to amass 500 points in a single season. Osborn currently boasts 503 points for the 2009-10 campaign. Miami faces No. 1 seed Bowling Green in the quarterfinals at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at Quicken Loans Arena.

Hockey (24-5-7; 21-2-5-2 CCHA) hosts No. 8 seed Ohio State in a best-of-three series this weekend with Friday's game scheduled for 7:35 p.m., Saturday slated for 7:05 p.m. and Sunday's, if necessary, set for 7:05 p.m.
Two members of the women's swimming and diving team also will participate in postseason action as Corey Bangs will compete at the NCAA Zone C diving competition from March 12-14 at Purdue's Boilermaker Aquatic Center and Kelsey Vehr advances to the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Purdue University, March 18-20. Tennis (5-2) dropped its lone match of the week, falling to Marquette 5-2. (RECAP) Anastasia Dracheva and Megan Martzolf won in singles action for the RedHawks. Miami faces SIU Edwardsville in Orlando at 4 p.m. on Wednesday before traveling to Wisconsin for a noon match against the Badgers on Sunday.

Baseball (2-7) lost a three-game series at Auburn last week, falling 14-9 in Friday's game (RECAP), 13-5 in Saturday's game (RECAP) and being edged 5-4 on Sunday. (RECAP) The RedHawks head to the state of Florida for six games this week. Miami faces Lehigh on Tuesday, Yale on Wednesday, Rhode Island and Fairfield on Thursday, Sacred Heart on Friday and North Dakota State on Saturday.

Congratulations to Meredith Lynch for being named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week last Tuesday. (RELEASE) Softball (5-7) got off to a solid start at the Miken Classic in Boca Raton, Fla., with a 2-0 win over Connecticut and a 3-0 win over Florida A&M on Friday. (RECAP) The RedHawks were edged 5-4 by Florida Atlantic in eight innings on Saturday (RECAP) and dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 18 Florida State and suffered an 8-0 six-inning loss to Michigan State on Sunday. (RECAP) Miami heads to Seattle for six games this week, facing Seattle on Wednesday, Washington on Thursday, Portland State and Washington on Friday and Portland State and Seattle on Saturday.
Two RedHawks from the women's track team ran at the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame Saturday, in a last chance to improve upon their NCAA provisional qualifying times before next week's NCAA Championships, but both came up just short of their school-record marks from earlier this season. Junior Kelley Miller took ninth in the mile run, while senior Amanda Mirochna placed eighth in 3000m run. (RECAP)
