It's day 2 at NCAAs! I woke up this morning and went to the pool with Dave and did a meet warmup up. I felt awesome in the water! At the end of my swim I did a 25 of the block and Dave timed it at a 12.8, which is right about what I was going right before MACs so hopefully I can swim just as fast (if not faster). We stayed and watched a little bit of the beginning of the meet after that.
It's definitely weird for me when I am next to a girl that is taller than me because I am a pretty tall girl myself, but it is incredibly odd to be surrounded by girls that are my height or taller! There are a lot of tall and athletic girls here, it's really cool being in the company of such incredible athletes.
After my warm-up Mark Davis showed up and we went to McAlisters Deli and had a sign of good luck!! Our order number was number 17 (on a green card no less), so I of course had to send a picture message to teammate Megan Brunn because we always fight over who gets number 17 because it's lucky for both of us!
After lunch I headed back to the hotel with my mom where I slept and relaxed for a while. We headed back to the pool again around 5 so I could jump in and do about a 700 just to get one more swim in the pool before tomorrow morning.
We went to Scotty's for dinner which was a recommendation from teammate Jenna Long. Good recommendation Gran! We loved it! After dinner Mark and Dave headed back to the pool so that they could watch the finals tonight and my Mom and I headed back to the hotel because my Dad, brother Nick and sister Lindsay just got in. It's definitely fun having my whole family here, it's like a Vehr family party at the Hampton Inn! This is only the second meet my brother has been able to seen me swim in since I've been at Miami and the first was MACs this year.
I am about to take a shower and shave! For all the non-swimmers reading this blog, I'll explain. Before every big swim meet swimmers shave their bodies to reduce any drag they may have. It's exciting because the first time I dive in the water tomorrow morning I will feel very smooth and streamlined. I'll spend the rest of the night in the hotel just relaxing and hanging out with my family.
I am so excited for tomorrow! It's been such a good week feeling the love (and honor), getting good luck text messages and emails from friends, family and teammates and people I haven't even heard from in a while. I've even been getting love all the way from Colorado from my Les Conch friends at the Air Force Academy!
As for now I'll just have to try and relax and not get too excited just yet! I miss my teammates and I hope coach Cindi Merrill didn't make you guys too sore from weights today!
Love and Honor,
KV
