Greetings from West Lafayette! What a crazy day its been so far, it seems like weeks ago I was back at Miami but it was just this morning! I have been loving the weather all day, and it's been fun getting texts and facebook wall posts from everyone telling me happy birthday and good luck. I guess I could say this isn't exactly how I always imagined spending my 21st birthday but it has been such an awesome day so far. I got into West Lafayette about 4 and Dave and I headed over to the pool for my first swim.
I've swam in Purdue's pool a few times before so it was nice to be in a familiar place. I had my last practice in my taper series today and laughed because Mark Davis, the assistant coach, randomly wrote "Happy Birthday" throughout the set! I miss my taper lane buddy, Nicole Roddenberry!! I felt great in the pool and the water felt very similar to the water back at home, so it will be easy to adjust.
The pool deck wasn't that crowded and I ended up running into a friend from high school who swims for UNC, so it's nice to know I may have a few friends on deck! While I was warming down I noticed a team in the ice bath together laughing and joking around and I couldn't help but think the same thing that Aly Schmidt and I felt all of last year, and that's how AWESOME it would be to have a relay make it to NCAAs! Dave and I talked about it in the car on the way back to the hotel, and let's just say Medley Relay get ready! Haha, we have some work to do this summer and we're going to kick some butt next year and make it!
We had dinner at a place called Spageddies across the street from our hotel. It was fun eating with Coach Dave and my Mom just talking about swimming and hearing some of Dave's stories. I had a gigantic plate of spaghetti and meatballs and I am feeling a little too full right now! Haha! After dinner we had a "team" meeting (and yes, my mom, Dave and I circled up and said "love and honor" on 3). Dave gave me all of my official NCAA Miami gear which is so exciting! Although I would have gotten them regardless of what day it is I'm going to pretend they were birthday gifts (because its a birthday celebration!!!)
I got a few text from teammates today with awesome news that Megan Brunn had a fast time in the 100 breaststroke at practice today. Megan and I share the same birthday and we went out to dinner last night with a few teammates and we're joking around about what time I might go on Friday in my 100 breast. Well, in practice, Megan Brunn went a 1:04 off the block after running and lifting which is REALLY impressive. So looks like I am absolutely going to have to go faster than that, haha!! I guess thats the luck of the Irish huh? Anyways, my mom and I are about to relax and watch Modern Family! It's hard to imagine a day that might top today! I am so happy and excited for the rest of the week!
Love and honor!
