Brunn Leads RedHawks With Third-Place Finish at Conference Championships

OXFORD, Ohio - Junior Megan Brunn and senior diver Kelsey Anagnos led the RedHawks in the second day of competition at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday night at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. Brunn finished third in the 200-yard IM, while Anagnos finished sixth in 1-meter diving. The RedHawks are in sixth place with 150 total points, only 16 away from third-place Eastern Michigan. Toledo leads the meet with 260 points.
Brunn earned the third-place finish in the 200 IM with a come-from-behind performance. After the first two legs of the race, Brunn was back in sixth place, but in the third leg, the breaststroke, she moved toward the leaders. During the freestyle leg she held on to finish third in a time of 2:03.09, just .01 behind the second place finisher from Toledo. Freshman Katie Arlinghaus swam a career-best 2:05.46 in the event to finish 10th.
Anagnos scored a 258.30 in her sixth-place performance on the 1-meter board. Freshman Corrine Bangs finished 11th with a score of 234.20 while her classmate, Danica Roskos was 14th with a score of 222.95.
Redshirt freshman Claire Dickmann held her spot in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing sixth in the consolation heat, good for 14th place overall with a time of 5:00.24. Toledo's Jacy Dyer won the event, breaking her own meet and conference records as well as the pool record with a time of 4:44.23.
Freshman Bekka Westrick finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 23.28. Senior Allison Way (23.71) and redshirt freshman Brittney Rohr (23.86) finished 14th and 16th, respectively. The Red and White relay team of Westrick, Way, Arlinghaus and Rohr swam to a sixth-place finish (1:33.74) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The action continues on Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Nixon Aquatic Center with the prelims of the 400-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 3-meter diving.
