RedHawks Fall to Bobcats on Tuesday Night

ATHENS, Ohio - Tuesday's game between Miami and Ohio featured a lot of scoring runs from each team, but it was one final run late in the second half that gave the Bobcats a 69-56 win. The RedHawks fall to 8-19 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-American Conference. Ohio improves to 7-20 overall and 3-11 in the MAC.

Despite the loss, Miami clinched a first-round home game in the upcoming MAC Tournament on Saturday March 6. The RedHawks will be either be the seven or eight seed and will host an opponent at a time still to be determined.

The RedHawks received balanced scoring throughout the contest. Kirsten Olowinski led Miami with 13 points, while Ashleigh Brown contributed 12 and Maggie Boyer 10. Nine different players scored for the RedHawks.

Miami started the game on a 10-4 run off a Boyer three-pointer and three jumpers from Olowinski. Ohio responded with a 10-0 run to take a 14-10 lead with 12:29 remaining in the first half. Right after that Brown and Courtney Reed hit back-to-back layups to spark a 13-1 run that put the RedHawks in front, 23-15. The Bobcats answered once again and went in front 29-26, but Briana Dunlap hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the teams to the locker room tied at 29.

Courtney Osborn led the charge out of the break with five straight points and Brown hit two jumpers as Miami went in front, 44-38. Ohio went on a 12-1 run to take a 50-45 advantage with 9:37 remaining in the game. Miami pulled to with three at 54-51 at the 4:21 mark, but back-to back treys from Jennifer Bushby and Carolyn Barnett as the shot clock was running down put Ohio up 60-51, a lead it would not relinquish as it took a 69-56 victory.

The RedHawks shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) for the game, compared to 43.3 percent (26-for-60) for the Bobcats. Ohio outrebounded Miami 45-31, and had 18 offensive rebounds for the game. Erin Wisner led the RedHawks with nine rebounds. Rachael Hencke had a career-high five assists.

Miami returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Akron for a 2 p.m. game with the Zips.
