RedHawk Teams Both Finish Second at Neuchatel Trophy

NEUCHATEL, Switzerland--Both the Miami University junior and senior synchronized skating teams posted second-place finishes at the Neuchatel Trophy in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The RedHawk junior team finished second in both the short program and the free skate. The senior team finished second in the short program and third in the free skate but was able to finish second overall in the final standings.
Miami's senior team had a clean skate with its 1940s themed free skate program on Saturday but was edge for second place by 0.68 points with a score of 113.52. Sweden's Team Boomerang finished second (114.20), while Sweden's Team Surprise won the free skate event with a score of 122.64. The RedHawks had a technical element score of 58.40 for its free skate and a program component score of 55.12.
The RedHawk senior team had a clean skate with their Romeo and Juliette themed short program on Friday. Miami posted a score of 63.66, finishing just behind Sweden's Team Surprise, which posted a score of 71.58 to lead the senior division field. Miami earned a technical element score of 39.06 and a program component score of 24.60.
Team Surprise finished first in the overall senior division standings with a score of 194.22. Miami came in second with a score of 177.18, besting Team Boomerang (172.12), Switzerland's Starlight Team (132.18), Hungary's Team Passion (131.48) and Switzerland's Team Dancers (122.16).
Miami's junior team had another strong skate on Saturday. The RedHawks, skating to their Bohemian Rhapsody themed program, had a clean skate and posted a score of 97.18, just behind Sweden's Team Convivium (103.36). The RedHawks posted a technical element score of 51.58 and a program component score of 45.60. Canada's Gold Ice finished just behind the RedHawks in the free skate event (96.04).
The junior team also had a clean skate with its short program on Friday choreographed to "Your Song" from Moulin Rouge and was edged by Sweden's Team Convivium in the short program by just 0.78 points. Team Convivium posted a score of 60.12 with the RedHawks following closely behind with a score of 59.34. Miami's technical element score was 37.18 with its program component score at 22.16.
Team Convivium finished first in the overall junior standings (163.48) followed by Miami (156.52), Gold Ice (154.88), Sweden's Team Seaside (119.48), Switzerland's Cool Dreams (119.00), Italy's Dandelion (108.40) and Hungary's Frost Work (83.94).
All three Miami teams return to the ice when they compete at the U.S. National Championships March 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Nationals Send-Off Exhibition - Join the Miami University Synchronized Skating program as the Senior, Junior and Collegiate teams perform one last time for the Miami and Oxford communities before they head to the 2010 U.S. National Championships at Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 1. Admission is free and open to the public.
