OXFORD, Ohio-- Miami women's basketball team scored first and never surrendered the lead en route to a 67-52 win over Buffalo Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. The RedHawks improve to 8-18 overall and 6-7 in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo falls to 7-19 overall and 3-10 in the MAC.

Courtney Osborn led the RedHawks with 21 points, 17 of which she scored in the second-half. Her seventh point of the game with 17:43 to play in the second-half set a new Miami freshman single-season scoring record. Ashleigh Brown added 17 points, nine assists and four steals.

Miami used a 12-2 flurry in the opening half to stretch its lead to 11 points with 3:38 to play off a sophomore guard Maggie Boyer 3-pointer, 22-11. Senior guard Courtney Reed also drained a 3-pointer during the spurt, while senior forward Ashleigh Brown chipped in four points.

After a sophomore forward Lillian Pitts jumper a 2:20 to again put the RedHawks up 11 points, 24-13, Buffalo rattled off four unanswered points to close within seven points with 56 seconds remaining in the half, 24-17. Freshman guard Courtney Osborn tossed in a jumper with 26 seconds to play to hand Miami a 26-17 lead going into the half.

UB's Kourtney Brown opened up scoring in the second half with a layup at the 19:44 mark but Miami came charging back with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 16 points by the 17:43 mark, 35-19. Osborn recorded four of the RedHawks' points during the stretch.

Osborn's layup and ensuing free throw to cap the run at the 17:43 mark broke the Miami freshman single-scoring record of 432 points previously held by Kim Lancaster, who set the record in 2000-01.

The Bulls made it a two possession game at the 11:47 mark, cutting the Miami lead to 41-36 after an 8-2 run and stuck around for the next five minutes before the RedHawks took control.

A five-minute, 17-6 run for Miami starting at the 5:27 mark put the game safely away as the RedHawks built an 18-point lead, the largest of the game. Osborn had eight points during the run.

Kirsten Olowinski grabbed seven boards and added five points. Rachael Hencke contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
