While two Miami teams begin their season this coming week in search of conference titles, one RedHawk squad secured Miami's second league crown of the 2009-10 school year, joining women's cross country, who won the Mid-American Conference Championship in the fall.

Top-ranked ice hockey (22-4-6, 19-1-4-2 CCHA) clinched its third Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title Friday night with a 3-2 victory at Bowling Green, as senior Jarod Palmer scored the game-winning goal with 3:23 left in the third period. (RECAP) Saturday, the RedHawks dominated the Falcons, 10-2, led by a pair of goals from Brandon Smith and Reilly Smith each, marking the second time in three games Miami has tallied 10 goals. (RECAP) The 'Hawks return to the ice this weekend, Feb. 19-20, as they host Nebraska-Omaha at Steve Cady Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 and 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, which will be the third game of a Miami tripleheader, along with men's and women's basketball games earlier Saturday. Both hockey games will be televised on ONN.
Men's basketball (11-14, 8-4 MAC) split a pair of contests last week, wrapping up competition against the West Division with a 55-47 victory over Toledo Wednesday night at Millett Hall for its fifth straight win, as four RedHawks scored in double figures, led by 14 points from senior guard Kenny Hayes. (RECAP) On Sunday, Miami got off to a hot start at Bowling Green, but the Falcons used a strong second half to knock off the RedHawks, 67-64, despite a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards from junior forward Nick Winbush and 17 points from Hayes. (RECAP) Miami hosts Akron in a pivotal MAC East showdown Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (of the Ohio Valley Conference) to Millett Hall Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m. for its ESPN BracketBuster game, which will follow the Miami women's basketball game at noon. Women's Basketball (7-18, 5-7 MAC) also split two games last week, taking down Eastern Michigan, 79-63, Wednesday night in Ypsilanti, Mich. spurred by a double-double of 13 points and a career-high 18 boards from freshman forward Kirsten Olowinski, as Miami finished inter-divisional play. (RECAP) Saturday, the women were tripped up at Kent State, 84-75, despite 19 points from sophomore forward Rachael Hencke. (RECAP) The RedHawks have just one game this week, as they host Buffalo at noon on Saturday, Feb. 20 to begin the men's/women's basketball doubleheader. Both the men's and women's games will be televised on ONN, while the women's game will serve as Miami's "Think Pink" game for breast cancer awareness and don pink jerseys.
Both Miami's men's and women's track and field teams took first-place finishes at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships over the weekend in Bowling Green, Ohio. The women finished with 177 points, 53 ahead of second-place Bowling Green, as they won seven events, including both relays and senior Nicki Mitchell in the pentathlon, who earned an NCAA provisional qualifying score. (RECAP) The men, in just their second indoor meet of the season, totaled 176 points to beat out the 12-team field, as the RedHawks took four individual event titles, including junior Michael McCarty in the heptathlon. (RECAP) The women's team returns to action Friday, Feb. 19 at the Ball State Quadrangular in Muncie, Ind. while the men's team competes in its final indoor meet of the season (per NCAA rules) at the Capital University Rick Meindl Last Call meet in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Softball, who was schedule to open its 2010 campaign this past weekend, had all its games at the Middle Tennessee State Tournament in Murfreesboro cancelled due to unplayable field conditions, as was a doubleheader against Morehead State that was scheduled to make up for the tournament being snowed out. (RELEASE) Miami is now set to open its season against Rutgers in Chattanooga, Tenn. at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.
Baseball is scheduled to open its season this coming weekend, as Miami faces No. 15 Clemson on Friday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. in Clemson, S.C. before playing at Furman Saturday at 4 p.m. and against Michigan State on Sunday at noon, also in Greenville, S.C.

Synchronized skating heads to Neuchatel, Switzerland this weekend as the team will compete for the Neuchatel Trophy from Thursday, Feb. 18 to Saturday, Feb. 20.
Women's tennis (3-2) also returns to action this weekend, as it hosts Butler at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, before welcoming Dayton to Hamilton on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m.
