Last week, RedHawk squads made Miami vs. the state of Michigan a great success, as five different Miami teams combined to go 5-2 against the directional Michigan schools from the Mid-American Conference (Eastern, Western and Central Michigan).
This week, with it being a new month comes new things in RedHawks athletics, such as "Miami Savings Bank RedHawk Recruiting Live," which will give anyone around the world an inside look at National Signing Day (Wednesday, Feb. 3). MURedHawks.com will have a free, live streaming webcast from Miami's football offices beginning at 7 a.m. and going until 1 p.m., as fans will be the first to hear who the newest RedHawks will be and get instant analysis from the Miami coaching staff. Last weekend, top-ranked ice hockey (18-4-6, 15-1-4-2 CCHA) skated to a sweep of Western Michigan at Steve Cady Arena, as four RedHawks tallied goals Friday night and goalie Cody Reichard stopped 18 of 19 shots for a 4-1 Miami victory. (RECAP) Saturday, the 'Hawks used a pair of power-play goals to knock off the Broncos, 2-1, as junior Andy Miele broke a 1-1 tie with less than five minutes remaining in the third period. (RECAP) This weekend, Miami wraps up a four-game home stand by hosting Lake Superior State Friday and Saturday, Feb. 5-6. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. Friday and 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Steve Cady Arena. Both games will be televised on ONN.

Men's basketball (8-13, 5-3 MAC) had a busy week playing three games and going 2-1 in a five-day stretch. Thursday, the RedHawks downed Central Michigan, 64-51 at Millett Hall, as senior guard Kenny Hayes scored a game-high 20 points. (RECAP) Saturday, Miami continued its success vs. the state of Michigan, holding off Eastern Michigan, 61-51 at Millett Hall, after limiting EMU to just 14 first-half points en route to a season-high 17-point halftime lead. (RECAP) Prior to the game against the Eagles, head coach Charlie Coles was honored for becoming the all-time leader in MAC wins while at halftime Lisa Dankovich was named the Red & White Club Don Loss Volunteer of the Year. (RELEASE) To start the week on Tuesday, Miami dropped a heartbreaker at Ball State, falling in double overtime 65-59, its first two-extra-period game since Feb. 23, 2008 vs. Valparaiso. (RECAP) The men hit the road this week, playing at Western Michigan Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. before heading to Northern Illinois Saturday, Feb. 6 for a 4 p.m. (ET) contest. Radio broadcasts of both games will begin a half hour before tip-off on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations.
MEN'S BASKETBALL VS. EASTERN MICHIGAN PHOTO GALLERY
Women's basketball (5-16, 3-5 MAC) split a pair of games this week, hammering Northern Illinois at Millett Hall, 96-51 Wednesday, as sophomore forward Rachael Hencke scored career-high 24 points to give Miami its highest point total in nearly six years. (RECAP) Saturday, the RedHawks dropped a 96-86 decision at Central Michigan, despite a career-high 29 points from sophomore guard Maggie Boyer. (RECAP) The women host a pair of games this week, welcoming Ball State to Millett Hall Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. before Western Michigan comes to town on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.
Synchronized skating was back in action this week, as all three teams competed at the Midwestern Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Friday and Saturday. The senior team won both the short program and free skate while the collegiate team also earned a first-place finish, while the junior team finished second in both the short program and free skates. (RECAP) Miami's collegiate team is off until the U.S. National Championships March 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minn. The RedHawk senior and junior teams have one more competition before nationals. Both teams will skate at the Neuchatel Trophy Feb. 18-20 in Neuchatel, Switzerland.
Women's tennis (2-1) defeated Cincinnati, 6-1, Friday in Hamilton, winning the doubles point and five of six singles matches. (BOX SCORE) Miami returns to the court twice this weekend, playing at West Virginia Saturday, Feb. 6 before heading to Huntington to take on Marshall Sunday, Feb. 7.

Miami's women's swimming and diving team defeated Eastern Michigan, 171-129, at the Nixon Aquatic Center Saturday on Senior Day, as the RedHawks won eight events. (RECAP) The women swim in their final dual meet of the season Saturday, Feb. 6 at Ball State, before hosting the MAC Championships Feb. 24-27.

Men's swimming did not fare as well against the Eagles, falling to Eastern Michigan 164-136 at the Nixon Aquatic Center last Saturday, despite four first-place finishes from senior Dave Brown on Senior Day. (RECAP) The men also swim at Ball State Feb. 6 to conclude its dual-meet season.

Women's track and field competed at the Indiana Relays over the weekend as junior Kelley Miller broke the school record in the mile Friday (RECAP) while Saturday senior Nicki Mitchell won the long jump invitational final. (RECAP) The women are back in action this weekend at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, Feb. 5-6. Congratulations to Miller for breaking the school record and for being named MAC Track Athlete of the Week last week after a strong showing at the Gladstein Invitational. (RELEASE)
Men's track competed in the first of its three NCAA-allowed indoor meets this weekend at the Findlay Indoor Classic, as four RedHawks competed Friday (RECAP) and the rest of the team got its season underway Saturday. (RECAP) The team next competes Feb. 12-13 at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships, hosted by Bowling Green.
Congratulations to former RedHawk track and cross country star Dan Huling, who was named the 2009 North American Steeplechase Runner of the Year by All-Athletics.com. (RELEASE)
Also, congrats to soccer players Jodi Zwingelberg, Allison Berkey and Brooke Livingston for being named All-Ohio last week by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association. (RELEASE)
HawkTawk presented by Brick Street will again be off this week due to the men's basketball game Thursday night. It will return next Thursday (Feb. 11) at BD's Mongolian Grill in Mason.
This Sunday, five former Miami players or coaches will look to win a Super Bowl ring as members of the New Orleans Saints coaching staff, when the Saints face the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. (RELEASE)
