OXFORD, Ohio - An unstoppable three-point barrage and 56 percent shooting led Miami to a resounding 89-63 victory over Marshall Monday night. Courtney Osborn led four RedHawks in double-figures with 26 points. With its third consecutive victory, Miami improves to 4-3 on the season. The Thundering Herd fall to 2-5.
The RedHawks finished 12-for-21 from the three-point line. The 12 treys made were only four short of the school record of 16. Osborn led the way, shooting 4-for-5 from behind the arc. Marshall took an early 7-4 lead three minutes into the game. From there, Osborn found Lillian Pitts for two fast break layups that sparked a 14-6 run that put Miami in front, 18-13. The RedHawks would not trail for the remainder of the game.
After the Herd cut the deficit to one at 18-17, the three-pointers began falling for Miami. Osborn and Hannah Robertson each hit treys, while Maggie Boyer each hit two to put the RedHawks up 32-19 with 6:27 remaining. Robertson would follow with a three-point play the old fashioned way, while Kirsten Olowinski hit a couple of layups as Miami cruised into the half leading, 43-28.
In front 52-36, a three-pointer by Osborn sparked another Miami run. It became the Rachael Hencke show as she went a perfect 7-for-7 during the second half, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Hencke's treys gave the RedHawks their largest lead of 36 points at 84-48 with 5:31 to go. They eased off the gas at that point, finishing with the 89-63 victory.
In addition to Osborn's 26 points, Hencke finished with 18, Olowinski had 16 and Robertson had 10. Olowinski led the team with nine rebounds, while Osborn contributed nine assists. Miami had 20 total assists compared to a season-low 10 turnovers, and held Marshall to 37.5 percent (21-for-56) shooting for the game.
The RedHawks hit the road for their next contest, traveling to Big 10 foe Indiana Thursday for a 7 p.m. tip.
