With students on break for the holidays it was a rather slow week in Miami Athletics. Just the men's and women's basketball teams competed last week while those two again play this week, as does ice hockey, which ends a three-week layoff. All of Miami's games are on the road this week, however.

Men's basketball (5-7) entertained local rival Cincinnati last Tuesday, hosting the Bearcats for the first time since 1993. Miami led much of the first half but the Bearcats used a 15-1 run at the end of the opening period to take control of the contest and knocked off the RedHawks, 64-48. (RECAP) Miami returns to the court Thursday, Dec. 30 at Belmont for a 2:30 p.m. ET tip in Nashville, Tenn. before heading west to take on No. 3 Kansas at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 2. Sunday's game will be televised on ESPNU.

Women's basketball (7-4) saw their six-game win streak come to an end last Tuesday, as a late run by host UMass helped erase a seven-point Miami lead and the Minutewomen held on to hand the `Hawks a 78-72 defeat, despite five RedHawks scoring in double figures. (RECAP) Miami resumes action Thursday, Dec. 30 as well with an 8 p.m. ET contest at Chicago State. The `Hawks then make the short trek to Cincinnati for a 2 p.m. tilt with the Bearcats on Sunday, Jan. 2.
The sixth-ranked ice hockey team (10-5-3, 8-4-2-1 CCHA) returns to the ice for the first time since Dec. 4 as it heads south to Florida for the Florida College Hockey Classic Dec. 29-30. Miami battles No. 9 Maine at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 in Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. to open the Classic. The RedHawks then face either Cornell or St. Cloud State on Thursday, Dec. 30. The consolation game is at 4:05 p.m. and the championship game is at 7:35 p.m.
