OXFORD, Ohio - Miami women's swimming and diving has claimed the No. 1 spot in the latest CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll released December 15. The poll ranks the Division I schools from non-BCS conferences. The RedHawks move into the top ranking for the first time since December 29, 2009.
Miami sports a 4-1 overall dual meet record, including 2-0 in the MAC and 3-0 against fellow mid-majors. The 2010-11 RedHawks also have a Miami Invitational championship under their belt and have only lost to Purdue, which ranks 20th in the Division I poll.
Earlier this year, Miami defeated Eastern Michigan, which ranks No. 22 in the mid-major poll and will face Toledo, ranked No. 21 in the same poll, later in the season. The RedHawks also have wins over the top three teams in Division III in No. 1 Kenyon, No. 2 Emory and No. 3 Dennison. Emory and Dennison were both at the Miami Invitational while Kenyon hosted the Red and White in a dual meet November 13. The RedHawks also received votes in the Division I poll.
Miami has concluded the 2010 portion of its season and will use a training trip over winter break to prepare for the second half. At the end of the trip the team will face Davidson and Marshall in a tri-meet before returning to Oxford. The next home meet for the RedHawks is a matchup against Evansville on January 12 at 5 p.m.
