RedHawk Skaters to Hold Exhibition Saturday

OXFORD, Ohio--This weekend, the Miami University synchronized skating teams are giving fans a sneak preview of the RedHawks' programs for the upcoming season.All three teams will be showcasing their programs in an exhibition at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6. The synchronized skating exhibition is at Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center and is free and open to the public.
Miami's senior team skates its short program to "Bridge Over Troubled Water" performed by Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli. The senior team's long program is themed Hypnotized in a Dream with a blend of music that characterizes a dream.
The collegiate team's competition program is a Brazilian Carnival theme, featuring music from King Africa, Sergio Mendez, Spirit of Brazil & Bond. The RedHawk junior team's short program is choreographed to music by Pat Benetar, and its free skate program is themed A Star is Born using various Broadway music.
"We are very excited to be skating our new programs in front of the home crowd," said head coach Carla DeGirolamo. "The teams have been training hard and we're ready to show off their progress. I am so proud of all that the teams have accomplished in just two short months and can't wait to watch them grow throughout the season. It's shaping up to be a great year for Miami varsity skating and we are ready to get it started!"
The exhibition is a tune-up for all three teams, who open their 2010-11 competitive seasons Dec. 4-5 at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic. The RedHawks will try to sweep gold at the national championships March 3-5 in Ontario, Calif.
Miami's senior team is coming off a third-place national championship performance last season and seeks to return to the World Championships this season, which will be held April 8-9 in Helsinki, Finland. The collegiate team, the six-time defending national champions, tries for the program's 13th national title at the collegiate level, while the junior team is working towards the varsity program's first national title at that level.
