GAMBIER, Ohio - Miami's Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams are on the road this weekend, taking on NCAA Division III powerhouse Kenyon College on Saturday at 2 p.m. The men are also competing on Friday against Ohio State in Columbus at 3 p.m.
Last season the men defeated Kenyon 159-135 while the women won by a 183-103 margin. Juniors Jimmy Beres and Chris Gunnels both won multiple events while sophomore Alex Reinhardt and senior Darin Smith each recorded one win. The women were led by sophomore Bekka Westrick and senior Kelsey Vehr who won two events apiece. The RedHawks have been led lately by senior Megan Brunn, who took home Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for her efforts last weekend.
The Kenyon women have been dominant in Division III, winning the National Championship 23 of the 29 years of competition. The Kenyon men have been just as, if not more dominant, winning the last 31 Men's Division III National Championships in a row. This year they are once again atop the Division III national poll.
Before heading to Kenyon, the Miami men take on the Buckeyes on Friday. In last year's meeting between the two teams, Ohio State won 189-107 in Oxford. The defending Big Ten champions are currently ranked No. 8 in the Division I national poll. The RedHawks will see the Buckeyes again later this season at the Miami Invitational.
