Miami Sophomore Guard Allen Roberts
On the game: "I think it was a great way to start the season; last year they kind of putting a pounding on us. I think it was a good way to respond and a good way to start the season."
On his foul trouble: "I was kind of slow on defense, not really moving my feet, trying to use my hands and I picked up some quick ones. I think with the flow of the game and aggression that just caused some of the fouls that I got."
On his driving layup late in the game: "The coaches tell us how to probe the defense. I waited for my opportunity to get inside the paint, I saw it and I finally just jumped in and converted the shot. I knew I had to do that for my teammates, because we needed that bucket. I'm glad it went in!"
Junior Forward Julian Mavunga
On Miami's Slow Start: "I am going to go ahead and put Allen (Roberts) on the spot and say he was really the X factor. He came in and made some big shots. He was in foul trouble, but he overcame that adversity and was really able to give us a boost. The guy only played 23 minutes, but he had 20 points. Coach (Coles) said early in the game that we settled too much ... and we just weren't moving the ball like we have been in practice."
On Towson's zone defense: "We didn't execute our offense to begin with to start out on a zone... we just didn't work the ball around them and didn't play well against it."
Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles
"We'll take that win. It was a tough game. It was a nerve-wracking game, because the game was played so slowly and there were very few fast-break opportunities for either team."
"I think they were going to make us shoot well to beat them. Their zone created a tempo, and that tempo kind of made both of us slow and whenever you have that kind of game you really don't shoot wel."
"We should have got it inside a little more. Hopefully we can shoot better and get in a rhythm. We've got to get our guards to rebound the ball; our guards are far too tentative. We need to be more active. I think if we are more active on the defensive end then our offense will come to get better."
