Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - Mary Hull scored two goals and had two assists as the Miami field hockey team routed Ball State, 7-0, on Friday afternoon. With those six points, Hull becomes only the fourth player in school history to pass the 100-point mark for her career. The RedHawks improve to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals fall to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the MAC.

Miami has now tied Kent State with its 7-2 record in MAC games. With a win Saturday, the RedHawks will clinch at least a share of their first MAC Championship since the current format began in 1984. The win Friday secures one of the top two seeds in the upcoming MAC Tournament and a bye into the semifinals, as Miami owns the tiebreaker advantage over Ohio, which finished its regular season with a 7-3 record

The RedHawks struck first in the 10th minute when Emily Gruesser's shot went off a Ball State defender's foot and into the goal. Only a minute and a half later, Olivia Miller redirected Jordan Long's shot to make it 2-0. In the 20th minute, Miller found Kelsey Lund just to the left of the goal, and her tip in made it 3-0 and gave Miami total control of the game.

The offensive attack continued in the 22nd minute, when Kylie Landeros scored on a penalty corner. Miami got its final goal of the first half in the 25th minute when Hull found Lund to send the RedHawks into the break up, 5-0. Miami outshot Ball State 11-0 in the period.

Hull completed the RedHawks' scoring with two goals in the second half. The first in the 43rd minute, off of a breakaway, put her exactly at 100 career points. She followed by deflecting a Christine Brightwell shot into the net off of a penalty corner in the 59th minute.

Hull, Brightwell and Gruesser each had two assists on the day. Lund led Miami with three shots on goal. The RedHawks outshot the Cardinals 18-6 for the game and had the penalty corner advantage at 7-2. Sarah Mueller made three saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

Miami will attempt to earn its first MAC Championship Saturday when it hosts Central Michigan at 1 p.m. The game is also Senior Day, where Hull, Brightwell and Kate Snyder will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
