Miami Finishes Fifth at Junior World Qualifier

LOWELL, Mass.--Miami University's junior synchronized skating team finished fifth at the Colonial Classic/Junior World Qualifier. With a clean skate, the RedHawks posted a free skate score of 96.13, which was a more than 20-point improvement from their score at the Dr. Porter Classic in the team's first competition of the season.
Team Braemar won the Junior World Qualifier with a total score of 191.33, producing a score of 119.68 for its free skate program. Skyliners finished second with a total score of 189.29, notching a score of 117.48 in the free skate. They will represent the United States in the World Challenge Cup in Goteborg, Sweden in March.
Chicago Jazz placed third (170.16) with the Lexettes jumping from sixth to fourth place with a total score of 160.98. Miami followed in fifth place with a total score of 155.75 after posting a 59.62 for its short program on Friday. Team Excel (152.41), Synchroettes (137.50), Hockettes (122.25) and Precisely Right (119.62) rounded out the junior field at the competition.
Miami returns to action when the senior and collegiate teams compete at the Mid-America Championships in Fraser, Mich., Jan. 16-17. All three teams return to the ice Jan. 29-30 at the Midwestern Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
