OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's women's swimming and diving team won eight events and took runner-up positions in 11 other races to defeat Eastern Michigan, 171-129, at the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday (Jan. 30).
It was Senior Day at Miami as upperclassmen Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO), Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati), Claire Fogarty (Kettering), Jenna Long (Yorktown, IN), Rachel Smith (Amsterdam, NY) and Allison Way (Omaha, NE) were honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
Anagnos won the one-meter diving event and placed second in the three meter, while Way won the 100 butterfly, placed second in the 200 freestyle and placed third in the 100 free.
Miami's biggest winner was junior Kelsey Vehr (Cincinnati) who won the 100 and 200 breaststroke, placed second in the 400 individual medley, and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Freshman Bekka Westrick (Fairfield) won the 50 freestyle event and swam with the winning 200 medley relay team. She finished second in both the 100 free and the 100 butterfly.
Other individual event winners for Miami included junior Megan Brunn (Mansfield) in the 400 individual medley and freshman Taylor Garber (Riverside) in the 200 butterfly.
Members of the winning 200 medley relay squad included Leah Thornton (Helena, AL), Vehr, Nicole Roddenbery (Peachtree, GA) and Westrick.
"I thought we raced well today," said Coach Dave Jennings. "Last week at Ohio we were up and down. Our freestylers swam much better and made a big difference. This was a good win today. I'm happy for our seniors."
The RedHawks swim at Ball State next Saturday and then will gear up for the MAC Championship Meet at home on February 24-27.
