Miami Men's Swimmers Lose at Buffalo, 160-131

Buffalo, N.Y. - Three Miami University men's swimmers and one diver captured first-place finishes, but it wasn't enough as the RedHawks dropped a 160-131 decision at Buffalo Saturday (Jan. 24).
Senior DAVE BROWN (Lake Orion, MI) took top honors in the 200-freestyle, touching the wall in a season-best time of 1:42.64. In that same event, freshman Anderson Whipp (Ft. Wayne, IN) finished third with a time of 1:42.97, his best swim of 2009-10.
Sophomore Chris Gunnels (Chapel Hill, NC) won the 100 backstroke (51.35), 0.05 seconds ahead of Ohio's Zach Ruske.
The RedHawks had a 1-2 finish in the three-meter diving event. Sophomore Cameron Horner (Columbus) earned nine team points for first with a score of 324.07. Freshman Chris Hoppler (Germantown, MD) placed second.
Junior Jason Hass (Jackson, MI) won the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:58.05.
Season-best times also were recorded by DARRIN SMITH (Bossier City, LA) in the 1650 freestyle (second place, 16:33.12), Whipp in the 100 freestyle (third place, 47.34) and Hass in the 100 butterfly (51.26).
Coach Pete Lindsay's RedHawks are 3-5-1 overall and 1-2 against league foes.
Next Saturday (Jan. 30), Miami swims at home at 1 p.m. against Eastern Michigan. There is no admission charge for the dual meet at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
