OXFORD, Ohio -Miami University's women's swimming and diving team, the nation's top-ranked Mid-Major squad, faces arch-rival Ohio University this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Athens.
Veteran RedHawk coach Dave Jennings says his team will need to swim their best against Ohio.
"The Bobcats will be a good test for our women," said Jennings. "They are a well-coached team that will be challenging for the MAC title in February. We will need our best performances of the dual meet season."
Miami, victorious over Cincinnati last Friday at the Nixon Aquatic Center, is 3-1 against Mid-American Conference competition, having beaten Buffalo, Akron and Bowling Green. Its only loss was at Toledo on Nov. 6.
Senior Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati) looks to continue her success at Ohio. In Miami's 180.5-119.5 victory over Cincinnati, she won two individual events. In the 100 backstroke, she touched the wall first in a time of 58.73 as Miamians placed 1-2-3 in that event. In the 200 backstroke, her first-place clocking of 2:03.16 was highlighted for a 29.62 first split. Carpenter now has accumulated an overall total of nine first-place finishes.
Senior Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO) also enjoyed a two-victory meet against UC last Friday. She totaled 323.33 on six dives in the one-meter event and 282.82 in the three meter.
On Tuesday in Athens, Ohio defeated Marshall, 165-104, to improve its overall record to 6-2 and its MAC record to 2-2. The Bobcats have beaten Akron and Buffalo and lost to Bowling Green and Toledo.
Next Saturday (Jan. 30), Miami swims at home at 1 p.m. against Eastern Michigan. There is no admission charge.
