It was a busy week last week for Miami Athletics with students returning to classes and seven Miami teams in action. Six of those seven teams will be in action again this week, while women's tennis begins its 2010 season this coming weekend.

Men's basketball (5-11, 2-1 MAC) won a pair of Mid-American Conference contests at home last week, giving the RedHawks their first back-to-back wins this season, while head coach Charlie Coles became the all-time leader in career MAC wins, earning his 194th and 195th league victories. Miami erased a 13-point halftime deficit Tuesday night behind 19 points from senior guard Kenny Hayes and 13 points, all in the final 10 minutes of regulation, from sophomore forward/center Julian Mavunga to earn a 55-53 overtime win over Kent State. (RECAP) Saturday, the RedHawks again rallied from a halftime deficit as four RedHawks scored in double figures and Miami outscored rival Ohio 50-30 over the final 20 minutes to grab a 79-67 victory in the 184th "Battle of the Bricks." The men look to continue their winning ways this week, as they travel to Akron Wednesday, Jan. 20, for a 7 p.m. clash with the Zips, before returning to Millett Hall Saturday, Jan. 23, to host Bowling Green at 3 p.m. Radio broadcasts of both games begin a half hour before tip-off on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations. Second-ranked ice hockey (15-4-5, 12-1-3-1 CCHA) got back on track last weekend, sweeping Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. Friday night, sophomore goaltender Cody Reichard tied the school record with his fourth shutout of the year, leading Miami to a 4-0 victory. (RECAP) Saturday, the RedHawks scored four second-period goals against the Bulldogs to overcome a one-goal deficit and earn a 5-4 win, as junior Tommy Wingels found the back of the net twice. (RECAP) Ice hockey remains on the road next weekend, as it heads northwest to Alaska for a weekend showdown with Alaska-Fairbanks. Puck drop is set for 11:05 p.m. (ET) both Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23.

Women's basketball (4-13, 2-2 MAC) split a pair of home contests last week, as senior Ashleigh Brown scored 17 points to lead the RedHawks to a 66-58 defeat of rival Ohio Wednesday night. (RECAP) On Saturday, a tough shooting night for Miami spoiled a strong defensive effort, as Akron knocked off Miami, 55-40. (RECAP) The women now face a two-game road swing this week, as they travel to Bowling Green Tuesday, Jan. 19, for a 7 p.m. tip with the Falcons, before continuing further up I-75 to tangle with Toledo at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 in an inter-divisional match-up.

Women's swimming and diving earned a 180.5-119.5 dual-meet victory over rival Cincinnati Friday night at the Nixon Aquatic Center, as senior Kasey Carpenter and senior diver Kelsey Anagnos each captured a pair of individual wins. (RECAP) The RedHawks return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 23, for a MAC dual meet at rival Ohio at 1 p.m.
The men's swimming and diving team did something that had only happened three times previously in the program's history last Saturday-a dual meet tie. Miami rallied to a draw with rival Cincinnati at the Nixon Aquatic Center, as the RedHawks won the final event of the evening, the 200 freestyle relay, to earn a 150-150 deadlock. (RECAP) The men look to come out on the winning side Saturday, Jan. 23, as Miami heads to Buffalo for a MAC dual meet at 1 p.m.
Women's track and field returned to action last weekend after over a month off, as the RedHawks won the 4x400-meter relay and seniors Margarita Pogorelov and Amanda Mirochna each won individual events to help Miami place third at the 10-team BGSU Women's Challenge Saturday at Bowling Green. (RECAP) The women next compete this coming weekend, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23, at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington.
Behind solid performances, Miami's senior and collegiate synchronized skating teams had a successful Saturday at the Mid-America Championships in Fraser, Mich. Both teams had clean skates and both seized first-place finishes. (RECAP) On the final day of the Mid-America Championships (Sunday), the senior team finished in second place in the free skate. (RECAP) The synchronized skating teams have two weeks off now before heading to the Midwestern Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Jan. 29 and 30.
Women's tennis begins its 2010 season this coming weekend with a home match vs. Xavier at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, before welcoming Indiana Saturday, Jan. 23, at 9:30 a.m. Both matches will take place in Hamilton, Ohio.
