Miami Hockey Game Notes

Steve Cady Arena - Oxford, Ohio
Miami vs. Robert Morris
With Miami's 17 shots on goal in the opening period, the RedHawks had fired double-digit shots on goal in seven consecutive periods until they managed just eight in the second period. Prior to that, the last time Miami didn't put 10 or more shots on goal in a period was the third period against Ohio State on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.
Despite the loss, Miami held Robert Morris to just 15 shots on goal in the game, equaling a Miami opponent's season low (Western Michigan Nov. 20 and Bemidji State Nov. 27). The RedHawks held RMU to just three shots on goal in the opening period, including just one shot on goal on the Colonials' two power plays. Miami also held the Colonials to just two shots on goal in the third period, which tied a single-period season low for an opponent (Bemidji State had just two SOG in the first period Nov. 27, 2009).
With Miami's two penalty kills in the first period, the RedHawks had killed 69 of their last 72 situations where the opponent had a man advantage, including all three at Robert Morris Friday night. The Colonials scored just 11 seconds into a power play at the start of the second period, however, ending Miami's streak of six straight penalty kills and 30 of their last 31. RMU also scored on a power play later in the period, which proved to be the game-winner.
Junior forward Pat Cannone scored on the power-play in the second period to tie the game, giving him three goals in his last five games. It was his sixth goal of the season overall and his third power-play goal of the year.
Junior forward Carter Camper picked up an assist on Cannone's goal, giving him five helpers in his last five contests and 11 on the year. He also scored Miami's lone goal Friday night, giving him at least one point in seven of his last nine games.
Junior forward Tommy Wingels picked up the other assist on Cannone's tally, extending his point streak to seven straight games, including his assist in Friday night's contest with RMU. Wingels now has a team-best 21 points on the year.
With the loss, Miami suffered a weekend sweep for the first time this season. The RedHawks also were handed back-to-back losses for the first time all year. The last time Miami dropped back-to-back contests was March 14-15, 2009 in the CCHA Tournament to Northern Michigan. The last time the 'Hawks were swept in a regular-season weekend series was Jan. 10-11, 2009 at Michigan.
Miami out-shot Robert Morris, 39-15, Sunday afternoon, despite the loss. The RedHawks also out-shot RMU 40-24 in Friday night's loss. On the weekend, Miami put 79 shots on goal to the Colonials' 39, but were outscored 5-2.
