Many of the fall sports teams were in action last week and Miami Athletics had several alumni back on campus as soccer and golf had Bicentennial Reunion Weekends and baseball also hosted an alumni weekend.
After an impressive 7-1 win at home against Ball State (RECAP) last Wednesday, field hockey (4-4-0; 2-0 Mid-American Conference) captured a pair of road wins last weekend to increase its string of wins to three. The RedHawks seized a hard-fought 2-1 overtime win at William & Mary last Saturday. (RECAP) Senior Katie Brightwell scored both goals for the RedHawks. On Sunday, Miami earned a solid 5-1 win at Richmond. (RECAP) The team hosts Indiana at 5 p.m. on Friday before hitting the road for a game at Central Michigan on Sunday.

Women's soccer (4-3-0) was edged 2-1 by Dayton (RECAP) but bounced back with a 4-0 win against Cleveland State on Sunday. (RECAP) Senior goalkeeper Krista Pace recorded her 10th career shutout to tie Miami's all-time record. Prior to Sunday's match, Allison Berkey, Kersta Carlson, Krista Pace, Jodi Zwingelberg, Stephanie Laser and Eva Candia were all honored as part of the Senior Day festivities that took place in conjunction with alumni weekend. Miami men's and women's soccer alumni were honored at halftime. Miami begins Mid-American Conference play when it travels to Buffalo on Friday and plays at Kent State on Sunday.
WOMEN'S SOCCER VS. CLEVELAND STATE PHOTO GALLERYFootball staged a late rally, but it was not enough as the RedHawks (0-3; 0-1 MAC) were defeated at Western Michigan, 48-26, in their Mid-American Conference opener. (RECAP) Junior Eugene Harris hauled in six catches and posted career-highs of 134 yards and two touchdowns for the Red and White. Miami rounds out a three-game road stretch at Kent State at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The radio broadcast of the game begins at 6 p.m. on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations. Miami will play its first game at Yager Stadium in two weeks when the RedHawks host the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Battle of the Victory Bell at 1 p.m. on Oct. 3. In its final regular-season tournament, volleyball (5-7) went 2-1 at the Ladyjack Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin. The RedHawks earned a four-set win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (RECAP) on Friday and came back with a decisive 3-0 win against Houston Saturday morning. (RECAP) Miami dropped a four-set match to host Stephen F. Austin it its final match of the tournament. (RECAP) Junior Michele Metzler and senior Megan Griffin were named to the all-tournament team. The RedHawks begin MAC play this weekend, hosting Buffalo at 7 p.m. Friday and Akron at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Men's cross country ran to a fifth-place finish at the 23-team John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions, hosted by Iona College on Saturday. The 8K race featured 203 runners competing in a talented field, as two nationally ranked teams in Wisconsin and host Iona competed, as well as 10 regionally ranked teams, including Miami. Senior Kevin Silver was the RedHawks' top finisher for the second straight race this season, as he crossed the finish line in 18th in a time of 26:04.66, which was 44 seconds behind race winner. (RECAP) Miami returns to action at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 3.
Women's cross country placed four runners among the top-20 at the MSU Spartan Invitational on Friday. No team scoring was kept while 170 women competed in the race. Senior Amanda Mirochna led the RedHawks with a 10th-place finish in 22:02, which was just under a minute behind first place. (RECAP) Miami returns to action at the All-Ohio Championships at 2 p.m. Oct. 2.
Baseball had its alumni game on Saturday with the Red Team defeating the White Team, 6-1. (RECAP)
BASEBALL ALUMNI WEEKEND PHOTO GALLERY
In action this weekend is the women's tennis team with individuals competing at the Michigan State Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The golf team returns to action at the Wolverine Invitational Saturday and Sunday. Softball also has a home fall doubleheader at noon Saturday against Wright State.
