The bottom of the fifth proved to be the undoing for Miami. The Zips led off the inning with a single, but the runner was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. However, Akron followed that up with five more singles and a double to bring in five runs and give them a 6-3 lead. In the top of the sixth, Hogl hit a long home run to left field to pull Miami to within one at 6-5, but the RedHawks were unable to squeeze another run across.

Hogl finished the day 1-for-3 with three RBI. Jordan McElroy was 2-for-4. For the second consecutive day, the RedHawks held Akron without a stolen base, throwing the Zips' baserunner out on the team's only attempt. Akron came into the game ranked fourth in the nation in stolen bases with an average of 2.59 a game.

Miami returns to action on Tuesday with its final home games of the season. The RedHawks will host Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
