OXFORD, Ohio--With a 7-5 win over Eastern Michigan University Saturday afternoon, Miami University's baseball team (12-10; 3-3 Mid-American Conference) completed a three-game sweep of the Eagles (4-21; 0-6 MAC) after a pair of wins against EMU on Friday.

Junior pitcher Reece Asbury earned the win on the mound for the RedHawks, giving up one run (unearned) off four hits while striking out five in 7.0 innings of work. Asbury moved to 2-2 on the season with the win.

Senior second baseman Jon Edgington paced the RedHawks at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, while sophomore right fielder Adam Eaton went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. Senior third baseman Jordan Petraitis and senior left fielder Chris Nadeau each tallied two hits apiece.

Eastern Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kyle Rhoad crossed home, despite a double play by the RedHawks, to put the Eagles on the board first.

Miami took the lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring three runs. Eaton plated sophomore shortstop Brad Gschwind on a single to left field. Edgington scored off a Petraitis single up the middle. Petraitis stole second and Eaton stole home to give Miami a 3-1 lead.

The RedHawks extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when a passed ball by the Eagles allowed Eaton to score to push the Miami lead to 4-1.

Miami furthered its lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, tacking on three more runs. Senior catcher Eric Darlage doubled to lead off the inning for the RedHawks and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. A failed pick off by the Eagles allowed Darlage to cross home to start the seventh-inning scoring for the Red and White. Eaton launched a two-run home run over the leftfield fence, also allowing Edgington to score to put the Miami lead at 7-1.

In the top of the eighth inning it appeared that the RedHawks got out of the inning unscathed with runners on first and second, but a balk on what would have been a lineout to first base for the third out of the inning moved runners to second and third. A double to right center by Jim Gulliver allowed two runs to score. Gulliver then scored off a single by Zack Leonard to put the Eagles within three runs, 7-4.

Eastern Michigan threatened in the top of the ninth inning. Aaron Crooks singled to plate Andrew Marshall to put the Eagles within two runs with one out. Todd Graves stepped to the plate to pinch hit, but Miami's Darlage connected with Gschwind to catch Crooks stealing second. Freshman reliever Jordan Jankowski struck out Graves to preserve the win.

Miami plays its next five games on the road beginning with a game at Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday, March 31.
