ORLANDO, Fla. - Miami scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth but still came out on the short end of a, 13-10, score on Thursday night against Northern Iowa in Orlando, Fla.
Miami took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a one-out single by Tommy Nurre (Cincinnati, Ohio). Miami carried a two run lead into the third but Northern Iowa evened the score. Miami would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth but Northern Iowa scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to make a 4-4 game heading into the seventh inning.
The Panthers expoled in the top of the seventh scoring seven runs on six hits. Northern Iowa put the game out of reach with two in the top of the ninth but that did not stop Miami from putting together a six-run rally in the ninth. Kevin Sakofs (Fairfield, Conn.) had the big hit as he tripled with the bases loaded.
Miami is back in action tomorrow with a double header against Sacred Heart at 11 a.m. and Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Chain of Lakes #1.
