RedHawk Women's Swimmers Defeat Ball State

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's senior swimming and diving quartet of Alyson Schmidt, Allison Stevens, Malarie Schmidt and Melissa Roemmele won seven individual events and led the RedHawks past Ball State, 190-105, at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
The victory improved Coach Dave Jennings's team's record to 10-2 overall and 6-1 against Mid-American Conference (MAC) rivals.
Alyson Schmidt and Stevens both won two individual events and swam on two other winning relay teams. Schmidt took first in the 100- and the 200-yard freestyle races, clocking respective times of :51.89 and 1:53.01. Stevens won the 50 freestyle (:24.24) and the 100 butterfly (:57.47). They teamed with Malarie Schmidt and Paige Iversen (New Hope, PA) to win the 200 medley relay and with Jennifer Nemeth (Highland Heights) and Malarie Schmidt to capture with 400 freestyle relay. Besides her two relay victories, Malarie Schmidt also won the 200 backstroke (2:08.53).
Roemmele, Miami's senior diver, was brilliant in both the one- and three-meter events, posting respective scores of 287.78 and 318.00.
Megan Brunn (Mansfield) also was a double winner, capturing the 200 breaststroke (2:19.88) and the 400 individual medley (4:30.70).
Single victories were claimed by Sarah Bullock (Louisville, KY) in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.30), Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati) in the 100 backstroke (:59.35), Kelsey Vehr (Cincinnati) in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.75), and Miranda Kaltenborn (Memphis, TN) in the 500 freestyle (5:12.05).
"It was good to get back on track," said Jennings. "Our divers performed very, very well and I was pleased by our 400 IM swimmers. Now comes our preparation for the MAC meet. We want to reach our peak at the end of the season."
