Turnovers, Shooting Cost Miami at Ohio, 60-48

ATHENS, Ohio -- Miami shot 30.9 percent and had 26 turnovers, sending the RedHawks to their fifth straight loss, 60-48 to Ohio Saturday afternoon at The Convocation Center.

Jenna Schone scored 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers to set Miami's career record for long-distance makes. She now has 231 threes, one more than Heather Cusick hit from 1999-2003. Rachael Hencke also had 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Jaclyn Leininger added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Da'Keisha Mann paced the Bobcats with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Jenny Poff tallied 14 points, seven assists and three steals.

Ohio never trailed in the contest, turning a 9-8 cushing into 14-8 with five straight points. Schone ended Miami's near five-minute drought with three-pointer No. 230, closing the gap to 14-11 at the nine-minute mark.

A 7-3 run helped the RedHawks climb back to within one, 19-18, with 1:18 left. Four different players accounted for the points, with baskets by Jaclyn Leininger, Ariel Thomas and Schone, plus a free throw by Hencke.

But the Bobcats tallied the last five points of the period, including a jumper in the lane as time expired to enjoy their biggest lead of the half, 24-18.

Miami hit just 31.8 percent (seven of 22) of its shots during the stanza and had 15 turnovers. The RedHawks also made just one of five attempts from beyond the three-point arc.

Miami started the second half with the first four points to close the gap to 26-24, but Ohio rattled off nine straight points to push the lead to double digits for the first time, 35-24 at the 12:49 mark.

The Bobcats used another 6-0 run to lead by as many as 16, 44-28, before Miami tried to rally. The RedHawks closed to within eight, 52-44 on a conventional three-point play by Rachael Hencke with 1:54 left, with six straight of their own, but Miami hit four of five free throws over the remaining time to preserve the win.

The RedHawks finished the game hitting just 17 of 55 attempts, including only three of 12 from behind the arc. Ohio shot 48.0 percent after intermission to close at 45.8 percent. Miami held a 41-31 advantage on the boards.

Miami closes the regular season with a pair of home games next week. The RedHawks host Bowling Green and Buffalo Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.
