LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The RedHawk softball team fell to 21st-ranked Louisville 9-1 in five innings Friday to begin the Louisville Red and Black Tournament. Miami is now 4-6 on the year, while the Cardinals improve to 13-2.
Miami got on the board in the top of the fourth when Sarah Billstrom hit a long home run to straight centerfield. It was the first home run by a RedHawk this season. Billstrom finished the day with both of the RedHawks' hits as she also had a single in the second inning.
Jessica Simpson got the start and gave up five runs over 2 2/3 innings. Fellow freshman pitcher Katie Osburn relieved her and gave up two earned runs over two innings.
The RedHawks continue play the Red and Black Tournament with two games Saturday. Miami will face IUPUI at 11 a.m. and Western Illinois at 5 p.m.
