Collegiate Team Places Fourth in Free Skate Program Competition

HARBIN, China--Miami University's collegiate synchronized skating team performed its free skate program on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the 2009 Winter World University games. After finishing fourth in the short program on Monday, the RedHawks also finished fourth in the free skate.
The RedHawks, who represented the United States, competed against teams from Finland, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.
Skating its free program to the music of Mamma Mia, Miami posted a total score of 92.97 for its free skate program, earning a mark of 49.25 for program elements and a mark of 44.72 for program component score.
Team Finland earned a free skate score of 132.18, Team Sweden posted a score of 128.92, while Team Russia compiled a score of 111.60. Team Switzerland finished behind the RedHawks with a score of 77.03.
Team Sweden held on to place first in the overall standings, amassing a total score of 206.48. Team Finland followed with a score of 202.28, while Team Russia finished third with a score of 173.19. Miami finished in fourth with a total score of 148.02, while Team Switzerland placed fifth with a score of 123.89.
