Miami vs. Wright State Postgame Notes December 13, 2009
Senior center Adam Fletcher recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Fletcher's previous career high for rebounds was nine against Dayton on Dec. 2 of this year. In 10 games this season, Miami has had players reach double-doubles five times. (Julian Mavunga has three and Nick Winbush has one.)
Junior guard/forward Antonio Ballard amassed a team-leading 12 points against the Raiders. It was the first time this season he has scored in double figures.
From 3-point range, Miami drained 4-of-5 in the first half (.800). The RedHawks finished the game 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Raiders were 7-of-24 from 3-point range for 29.2 percent.
Each team was perfect from the free-throw line in the first half. Wright State was 5-for-5, while Miami hit all six of its attempts. The RedHawks shot twice as many free throws in the first half against the Raiders as they did in the entire game against Cincinnati in their previous contest.
Miami amassed a season-high seven blocked shots. Junior forward Nick Winbush tied a career high for blocked shots with three. He also had three in the season opener at Towson. Senior center Adam Fletcher and sophomore forward/center Julian Mavunga had two apiece.
Wright State capitalized on Miami's 12 first-half turnovers, scoring 19 points. In the second half, Miami committed only four turnovers, although those led to nine Wright State points as the Raiders finished with 28 points off turnovers compared to Miami's 11 points off 12 WSU miscues.
All seven RedHawks who played in the first half scored.
Wright State's Troy Tabler matched a career high of four made 3-pointers, helping him score a game-high 23 points for the Raiders.
Wright State hauled in eight of its 15 rebounds on the offensive glass in the first half. The Raiders finished with 11 offensive boards.
Kenny Hayes' game-winning layup with 22 seconds left was Miami's first lead of the second half. The last Miami lead prior to that was 12-10 at the 10:21 mark of the first half. This was Hayes' seventh game with double-digit scoring.
With the win, Miami improves to 17-8 all-time against Wright State. This is Miami's second consecutive win in the series including last year's 55-37 win at the Nutter Center in Dayton. Three of the last four games in the series have been won by a single point.
