LEXINGTON, Ky. - A tough shooting night for Miami turned into a 107-53 defeat at the hands of Kentucky Tuesday night at Memorial Coliseum. Courtney Osborn continued her strong start to her collegiate career with another 22 points to lead the RedHawks. Miami falls to 1-5 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 7-0.
The RedHawks played even with the Wildcats in the opening minutes of the game. Twice they answered Kentucky baskets by hitting Lillian Pitts for fast-break layups, which tied the score at four. Osborn hit four free throws and a three-pointer to keep Miami in it for the first six minutes, but with the score 15-11 in favor of the Wildcats, a 15-0 run put Kentucky up 30-11 with 10:41 remaining in the half. A three-point play by Kirsten Olowinski and a two free throws by Briana Dunlap broke up the run and pulled the RedHawks within 18 at 34-16, but Kentucky closed the period on a 23-5 run to take a 57-21 lead into the break.
Kentucky expanded the lead to 45 by the 15:24 mark of the second half, but Miami went on a scoring run to cut into the advantage. Pitts hit two layups and Osborn hit another jumper as the RedHawks outscored the Wildcats 19-8 over the next five minutes to make the score 78-44. From there, Kentucky regained its footing and pulled away to earn the 107-53 victory.
In addition to Osborn's 22 points, Pitts scored a career-high 10. Miami shot 26.8 percent (15-for-56) for the game, while Kentucky shot 57.1 percent (36-for-63). The Wildcats also hit 12-for-17 on their three-point baskets to help their cause. Victoria Dunlap was their leading scorer with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
