OXFORD, Ohio--This weekend, the Miami University synchronized skating teams are giving fans a sneak preview of the RedHawks' programs for the upcoming season. All three teams will be showcasing their programs in an exhibition at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. The synchronized skating exhibition is at Coach Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center and is free and open to the public.
Miami's senior team performs its short program to music from Romeo and Juliette with their long program choreographed to the music from the 1940s including “Heat Wave” by Irving Berlin, “Summertime” by George Gershwin and “Too Darn Hot” by Cole Porter. The collegiate team's competition program is to a “Sex and the City” theme. The RedHawk junior team skates its short program to "Your Song" from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack and their free skate program is to a compilation of different versions of “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
The exhibition is a tune-up for all three teams, who open their 2009-10 competitive seasons Dec. 5-6 at the Dr. Porter Classic. The RedHawks will try to sweep gold at the national championships March 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minn., while the ISU World Championships are being held in the United States for just the second time in the history of the event. They will take place April 8-10 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Miami’s senior team is coming off a national championship performance last season and seeks the program’s fourth senior-level national crown. The collegiate team, the five-time defending national champions, tries for the program’s 12th national title at the collegiate level, while the junior team is working towards the varsity program’s first national title at that level.
