As fall sports continue to wind down, winter sports are heating up.
The men's and women's cross country teams concluded their seasons at the NCAA Great Lakes Regionals. The RedHawk women finished in eighth place among the 32-team field. Junior Rachel Patterson was named All-Great Lakes Region after crossing in 19th place (18th in team points) to lead Miami in a career-best time of 21:34.14, making her the sixth-fastest performer in Miami history. Senior Laura Neufarth, an all-region honoree in 2007, placed 26th (25th in team points) in 21:48.62. She was just one place out of earning all-region honors for the second time in her career. (RECAP) The RedHawk men finished in 14th place among the 30-team field. Junior Michael Perry was Miami's top finisher for the second straight race, crossing in 48th place in a time of 32:27.42. The football team (1-10; 1-6 MAC) closes out its season on Wednesday, hosting Buffalo at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Men's basketball (0-1) opened its season at Towson last Friday. Senior Kenny Hayes scored 17 points and Miami shot an impressive 55.2 percent from the field in the first half, but Towson stormed back in the second half to capture an 82-71 win against the RedHawks. (RECAP) There is little rest for the RedHawks, who battle No. 4/5 Kentucky tonight at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on FS South and on the Big Blue Sports Network affiliate stations, which includes WB64 in Cincinnati. Radio broadcast of the game begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations. Miami then takes flight for a tournament at New Mexico Nov. 20-22. The RedHawks face Louisiana Tech on Friday, Nicholls State on Saturday and host New Mexico on Sunday. Sunday's game time has been pushed back to 8 p.m. ET to accommodate a local television broadcast.
Women's basketball (1-1) opened the season with a decisive 75-54 win over Bucknell on Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Iona Tip-Off Classic. Rachael Hencke and Courtney Osborn led Miami with 16 points each, while Ashleigh Brown had a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. (RECAP) Osborn scored 22 points against Arizona on Sunday, but the RedHawks suffered a 91-67 loss in the finale of the Iona Tip-Off Classic. (RECAP) Miami hosts Wake Forest at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in its home opener.

Congratulations to Megan Griffin and Michele Metzler, who earned MAC Player of the Week honors last week. (RELEASE) Volleyball (16-12, 11-5 MAC) suffered a pair of three-set losses over the weekend. On Friday, Miami fell to MAC regular-season champion Ohio 21-25, 23-25 and 24-26. (RECAP) On Saturday Miami suffered a 29-31, 24-26, 16-25 loss to Kent State. (RECAP) The RedHawks are the No. 3 seed in the MAC Tournament and receive a first-round bye. Miami will play in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 20 in Toledo, Ohio.
Miami men's swimming and diving came from behind to defeat defending Division III National Champion Kenyon College 159-135 last Saturday. David Brown, Michael Carroll, James Beres and Chris Gunnels won multiple events for the RedHawks. (RECAP) Women's head coach Dave Jennings took time during one of the meet's breaks against Kenyon to surprise men's head coach Pete Lindsay with a recognition for his 25 years of coaching service at Miami. Many of Lindsay's former swimmers were in attendance and the crowd gave the coach a standing ovation to show appreciation for all of his work throughout the years. Diver Cameron Horner was the only individual winner for the RedHawks, capturing the one-meter event with a score of 352.35, as the RedHawks were defeated by Ohio State, 189-107 last Friday. (RECAP) The RedHawks return to action Dec. 3-5 when they host the Miami Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center.

Miami women's swimming and diving cruised to victory over defending Division III National Champion Kenyon College 183-103, winning 15 out of 16 events last Saturday. Bekka Westrick won two individual events and a relay to lead the RedHawks. (RECAP) The RedHawks dive back into action Dec. 3-5 when they host the Miami Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center.

Fans can get a sneak peak of all the RedHawk programs as Miami's synchronized skating teams will host an exhibition performance of their competition programs on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at Steve Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
