Last weekend was an action-packed Family Weekend at Miami with several RedHawk teams competing in Oxford. While numerous teams will be on the road this week, a few will be hosting home events.
Football (0-5; 0-2 MAC) played its first game at Yager Stadium this year in front of an impressive crowd of 23,493 on Saturday. The RedHawks came up short in the 114th playing of the Battle for the Victory Bell, falling to Cincinnati, 37-13. (RECAP) Several RedHawks had notable performances. Junior wide receiver Armand Robinson amassed 100 yards receiving becoming the first Miami player since Ryne Robinson in 2006 to boast back-to-back 100-yard receiving games. Senior running back Andre Bratton notched his first career receiving touchdown and amassed 90 receiving yards. Junior linebacker Deandre Gilmore tallied his first career interception, while sophomore defensive back Anthony Kokal led all RedHawks with a career-high 13 tackles. Miami will be on the road for its next two games before returning to Oxford to play four of its last five games at home. Next weekend, the RedHawks travel to Northwestern for a noon (ET) kickoff. The radio broadcast of the game begins at 11 a.m. on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations.
FOOTBALL PHOTO GALLERY VS. CINCINNATIComing off a stellar postseason run in 2009, Miami's hockey team was tabbed No. 1 in the preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Coaches Poll. (RELEASE) Junior forward Carter Camper was a unanimous first team selection to the CCHA Preseason All-Conference Team. Sophomore defenseman Chris Wideman was an honorable mention selection. (RELEASE) In their lone tune-up before beginning the regular season this weekend, the RedHawks downed Windsor 6-2 on Saturday evening in exhibition action. (RECAP) Miami opens its season this weekend, hosting St. Cloud State at 7:35 p.m. on Friday and 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
For the second consecutive week two Miami field hockey players took the MAC's Player of the Week accolades. Senior back Maggie Marcum was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Huck was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week. (RELEASE) Field Hockey (8-4-0; 5-0-0 MAC) had another stellar week with a 3-1 triumph over Ball State (RECAP) and a scorching 9-0 win against Missouri State to remain undefeated in MAC play. (RECAP) The RedHawks have won seven straight, their longest winning streak since the 1981 squad won eight consecutive, and the nine goals ties for the most goals scored in a game by a Miami team. Sophomore forward Jackie Nguyen had a hat trick in the win against Missouri State. Miami has a full week of competition ahead as the RedHawks host Ohio State at 3 p.m. Wednesday, before hosting Kent State at 1 p.m. Saturday and Ohio at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Senior setter Andrea Atteberry and senior outside hitter Maria Leahy swept the MAC East Division Volleyball Player of the Week Awards last week, with Atteberry capturing Offensive Player of the Week honors and Leahy being named Defensive Player of the Week. (RELEASE) Volleyball (8-8; 3-1 MAC) started off the weekend with a solid 3-0 win at Bowling Green last Thursday to win its third straight. (RECAP) The RedHawks, however, suffered a three-set loss at Northern Illinois on Saturday evening. (RECAP) Miami continues a four-match road stretch when it plays at Kent State on Friday and at Ohio on Saturday.

Congratulations to senior goalkeeper Krista Pace, who became Miami soccer's record holder for shutouts on Friday. Pace notched her 11th career shutout and third of the season with Miami's 1-0 win over Toledo on Friday. (RECAP) After picking up its first MAC win of the season against the Rockets on Friday, the Miami soccer team (6-4-1; 2-1-1 MAC) followed that up with a 4-1 win against Bowling Green on Sunday. (RECAP) The RedHawks hit the road for a pair of MAC games, playing at Eastern Michigan on Friday and at Central Michigan on Sunday.
With five runners finishing among the top 20, the Miami men's cross country team claimed the 37th annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational title Saturday. Senior Kevin Silver was the RedHawks' top finisher for the third time this season, earning individual runner-up honors in 24:58. (RECAP) The RedHawks have a week off before heading to the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 17.
Women's Cross Country finished second at the All-Ohio Championships behind Ohio State. Senior Kelsey McHugh led the way for the RedHawks finishing in ninth place overall (sixth in Division I) in a time of 18:55.2, while fellow senior Amanda Mirochna was less than a second behind in 10th place (seventh in Division I). (RECAP) The RedHawks head to the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 17.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams each held intrasquad meets on Saturday morning. (RECAP) The RedHawk men's swimming and diving team opens its season Friday, Oct. 9 at Evansville and then travels to Southern Illinois for a meet on Saturday, Oct. 10. The women's swimming and diving team opens its season Oct. 23, hosting Purdue.
Golf returns to action this week, competing in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic Monday and Tuesday.
The RedHawk softball team defeated Indianapolis Sunday in a fall exhibition doubleheader, taking game one, 10-2, and the nightcap, 6-5. (RECAP) Miami travels to Evanston, Ill., Sunday to face Northwestern and Loyola.
Baseball began its five-game Red & White intrasquad series last weekend. The Red Team took a two-game lead on the White Team with a 3-1 win on Friday (RECAP) and 9-5 win on Saturday. (RECAP) The series concludes this week with 3:30 p.m. games on Thursday and Friday and a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
Several members of the women's tennis team competed at the Wolverine Invitational over the weekend. (RECAP Day 1, RECAP Day 2, RECAP Day 3) Junior Anastasia Dracheva finished fourth Sunday in the Maize Draw at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by Michigan. Miami will participate in the ITA Midwest Regionals in Cincinnati Oct. 22-26,

Also this week is the October Red & White Club Luncheon, which will be held at City Barbeque in Hyde Park on Thursday, Oct. 8. Featured coaches will be Coach Blasi and Head Volleyball Coach Carolyn Condit. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with the program beginning at noon.
