BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The men's golf team shot a solid round of 293 to finish in fifth place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate Tuesday. The RedHawks finished the event at 27-over par and only nine shots behind UNC-Greensboro, which won the event at 18-over par.
"We played a decent round today," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "Anytime you have four scores under 75 it's a good day. If we could have had a day like that yesterday we would have won the tournament. The lesson is you always have to be prepared and part of that rests on me."
With an even par round of 71 Tuesday Michael Drobnick was the top Miami individual at Georgetown. He finished the tournament at four over par and in a tie for fifth.
"It was a great 71," said Lubahn. "He had some adversity with a couple bad holes and a couple bad breaks, but he rebounded to put together a nice score. I am super proud of him."
Other RedHawk individual finishes included Craig Voorhees, who was tied for 20th at eight over par. Right behind him was Blake English in a tie for 28th at nine over par, and Nathan Sutherland, who finished tied for 33rd at 10-over par. Charlie Hendrickson rebounded from a tough opening round to shoot a 74 on Tuesday and finished tied for 56th at 20-over par. For Hendrickson, a senior, it was the first tournament he participated in during his career.
"It was a weekend of firsts for Charlie," said Lubahn. "He had a nice round today. He had one traumatic hole, but rebounded nicely. Hopefully this helps the depth of our team going forward."
Miami concludes the fall portion of its schedule when it travels to Fort Myers, Fla. to participate in the Renaissance Invitational Nov. 1-2.
