Lisa Dankovich, a 1987 graduate of Miami University, has been named the 2009-10 Red & White Club Don Loss Volunteer of the Year. An active member of the Red & White Club (RWC), Dankovich has been associated with Miami Volleyball since 1983 as a student-athlete, former assistant coach for 16 seasons and now avid supporter of the program.
"Lisa has been a vital member of the Miami Athletics Family in several capacities over the years," said Miami Director of Athletics Brad Bates. "As her roles have changed from being a student-athlete to a coach and now to an active alumna and Red & White Club member, her dedication to Miami Athletics and to volleyball has never wavered. She continues to be an advocate for the student-athlete and is extremely deserving of this prestigious honor."
This year, Dankovich was instrumental in the formation of and is currently the chair of the Volleyball Alumnae Board (VAB). The board has already created a career database for volleyball athletes, conducted a networking seminar for the team and set up job shadowing for players. It has also made assisting the Red & White Club and its goals a high priority.
This month, the VAB is kicking off a fundraising effort support the volleyball program. To accomplish this goal, Dankovich and the board members organized a phone tree where alumnae from each decade called former teammates.
In addition to these VAB objectives, she has continued to promote the Red & White Club and the merits of its membership while also regularly attending and supporting RWC initiatives and functions.
During her time as a student-athlete, Dankovich was a three-time all-MAC selection as a setter and continues to own the Mid-American Conference record for service aces in a season. She is the Miami record holder for single-season and career service aces and remains ranked among the top 20 in NCAA Division I for career service aces per set.
As an assistant coach, Dankovich contributed to five MAC championships and NCAA appearances, three MAC tournament titles and two National Invitational Volleyball Championships jaunts during her tenure, while four Miami volleyball players earned MAC Player of the Year honors during that stretch.
The Don Loss Award is presented to a member of the Miami University Red & White Club in recognition of his/her dedicated service. This award is given annually in memory of Don Loss, a 1951 graduate of Miami University and former Red & White Club Board member, whose loving support for Miami Athletics helped lay the groundwork for the Red & White Club today. Dankovich will be honored during the volleyball match vs. Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
The RWC is the membership organization that supports Miami University Athletics' annual scholarship needs. To become a member of the RWC, call 513-529-8097, email RWClub@muohio.edu or click HERE. Your gift DOES make a difference in the lives of Miami student-athletes.
