RedHawk Swimmers & Divers Debut in Intrasquad

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's 2009-10 men's and women's swimming teams will make their debut this Saturday (Oct. 3) at 9 a.m. in an intrasquad meet at Nixon Natatorium inside MU's Recreation Sports Center.
Coach Pete Lindsay, who begins his 25th season as head coach of the RedHawk men's team, is excited about his young team and his opportunity to evaluate its progress.
"We have a very young team this year with 10 rookies and six sophomores," said Lindsay. "It is a talented group that will bring a lot of excitement and surprises to the team. The format requires each man to swim in four events, which is greater than the number in a normal dual meet, so we will be able to evaluate our state of conditioning and recovery capability. It should be a fun event and a pretty tight meet."
The men were split up into the Red and White squads by the team's juniors.
Coach Dave Jennings's defending Mid-American Conference champions added 16 freshmen to the roster this season and the coach is anxious to see them in action. "The Red-White Meet is always a fun way to start the season," said Jennings. "It will give us a chance to see our team in a competitive situation. Since we have a big freshman class, it will be exciting to see these athletes swim and dive."
Jennings and assistant coach Mark Davis split the women into the two teams they predict will be very evenly matched.
