OXFORD, Ohio -- Naama Shafir converted a driving layup with 4.7 seconds left, leading Toledo to a frantic come-from-behind 66-64 win over Miami Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. The Rockets trailed by eight in the final seven minutes but scored 11 straight points to erase the deficit.

The loss overshadowed a season-high 27 points by senior Jenna Schone, who missed a baseline jumper to force overtime at the buzzer. Senior Stephanie Ford tallied 15 points and four rebounds, while freshman Maggie Boyer added 13 points and six boards.

Tanika Mays led Toledo (11-8, 5-1) with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Jessica Williams added 12 points. Shafir finished with 10 points, despite hitting just three of 14 shots from the field during the contest.

Miami (11-8, 3-3) held a 59-51 lead after Schone hit a jumper with 6:23 left, but Toledo held the RedHawks to just one field goal over the remaining time. An 11-0 run, featuring points by four different players, put the Rockets up three, 62-59 at the one-minute mark.

Ford hit a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left, but Melissa Goodall, who converted a key three-point play during the run, canned a jumper at the 24-second mark, keeping the lead at three.

Ford responded again, hitting just the fourth three-pointer of her Miami career with 11 seconds to play to knot the game at 64. After a Toledo timeout, Shafir sliced down the lane to the right block for the deciding basket.

Miami actually led by nine midway through the second half, using a 12-2 run to turn a 41-40 deficit into a 52-43 lead with 12:10 to play. Schone keyed that spurt with back-to-back baskets and a free throw.

Both teams were cold from the field as Toledo hit just 37.1 percent and Miami 34.9 percent. The game featured 47 combined turnovers and 47 free throw attempts.

After Miami hit a three-pointer to start the game, Toledo scored 10 of the next 12 points to lead 10-5. The run extended to 17-4 as the Rockets opened its first double-digit advantage, 17-7 with 14:24 left in the half.

Toledo hit four of its first six three-pointers, and was 10 of 17 overall from the field in the first eight minutes, pushing the lead to 24-10.

But Miami responded with a 10-1 spurt, started with a three by Schone and capped with a three Boyer, to close to within five, 25-20 by the 9:29 mark.

Six straight points by the Rockets pushed the lead back to eight, 34-26 with 5:16 left, but the RedHawks exploded. Schone scored seven straight points to start an 11-0 run that put Miami ahead 37-34. Each team scored another basket before intermission, keeping the lead at three at the break.

Miami, who has dropped back-to-back MAC home games, now hits the road for a pair starting next Saturday at Ball State.
