COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 2 Miami held a 42-19 shot advantage, but gave up three straight power-play goals after a 1-1 tie to fall 4-2 to Clarkson Friday night in the opening round of the Ohio Hockey Classic. The result snapped an eight-game winning streak by the RedHawks and an 11-game winless streak by the Golden Knights.

Clarkson goalie Paul Karowich stopped 40 RedHawk shots during the contest, including several from point-blank range. MU held a 15-4 shot advantage in the opening period, but fell behind for the first time in more than 470 minutes when Shea Guthrie beat Cody Reichard (Celina, Ohio) stick side just 1:39 into the game. Nick Tremblay and Julien Cayer picked up the assists.

Carter Camper (Rocky River, Ohio) scored for the fifth time in four games to even the game at 1-1 with 11:16 left in the second period. Karpwoich saved a shot from Tommy Wingels (Willmette, Ill.) and a rebound tap from Pat Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.) before Camper finally slipped it in for the goal.

The Golden Knights (3-10-4) would regain the lead at 13:05 of the second as Julien Cayer netted a power-play goal with assists from Brandon DeFazio and Laui Tuohimaa.

They upped the lead to 4-1 on a more man-advantage goal by Brandon DFazio and an even strength goal by Bryan Rufenach. Justin Vaive tipped in a slap shot by Raymond Eichenlaub to cut the lead to two but Karpowich kept his magic going to keep the RedHawks at bay over the remaining time and preserve the win.

Carter Camper evened the game at 1-1 with his 11th goal of the year with 11:16 left in the second period, but the Golden Knights answered with three straight goals, two on the power play.

Miami will play in the consolation game tomorrow against Army, who fell 6-1 to Ohio State in the second game of the night. The RedHawks and the Black Knights will face off at 5:05 p.m. inside Value City Arena.
