Miami Falls to Bowling Green 87-79

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In a game that featured several long scoring runs by both teams, Miami University fell to Bowling Green 87-79 in Mid-American Conference game Wednesday night. The RedHawks are now 10-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC East Division. The Falcons are 14-2 and 3-0 in the MAC East.

An inability to keep the Falcons off the free throw line did in Miami as Bowling Green went 33-for-36 from the free throw line.

An early technical on Bowling Green coach Curt Miller gave Miami a 10-6 lead after Jenna Schone hit both free throws. The RedHawks' offense was working early, building the lead up to 22-16 with 9:20 remaining in the half thanks to six points from Ashley Hawkins. After the Falcons pulled to within one, a bucket by Schone, followed by a steal and layup from Courtney Reed built the lead back up to five at 26-21 at the 7:49 mark.

With the RedHawks up 27-23, Bowling Green went on a 10-0 run to take a 33-27 lead at the 4:31 mark. Miami got as close as 37-35 off a Hawkins steal and layup, but Lauren Prochaska hit 5-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch to key an 8-3 Falcon run that put Bowling Green ahead 45-38 at halftime.

Hawkins had 12 points at the half as Miami shot 43.6 percent (17-for-39), compared to 51.9 percent for the Falcons (14-for-27). Bowling Green scored 14 of its points from the free throw line.

Maggie Boyer, who only played two minutes during the first half hit a three-pointer early in the second half to cap off a 7-2 run for Miami that put the RedHawks right back in the game, trailing 47-45. A three-pointer by Schone with 15:25 to go gave Miami its first lead of the second half. Bowling Green scored the next four points to quickly regain the lead, but another three from Boyer tied the score at 57 with 13:48 remaining.

With the score 60-57 in favor of Miami, the Falcons recorded their second 10-0 run of the game to take a 67-60 advantage with 8:28 left in the game. The RedHawks continued to fight, but two Prochaska threes gave Bowling Green a 10 point lead. Jaclyn Leininger scored a three-point play to keep Miami in the game, but the Falcons hit their free throws down the stretch to come away the victory.

Reed led Miami with 19 points, while Schone finished with 15, Hawkins 14 and Leininger 13. Prochaska led Bowling Green with 19 points.

Miami returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Buffalo for a 2 p.m. game.
