The only competition in Friday night's Great American Legends Race at Purdue University was between Miami University's Pat Sovacool and Kevin Silver for first place. Sovacool edged Silver by six inches for the win and the RedHawks ran away with the team title with 24 points.
Miami's team total beat Ohio State's 53 points, while Butler totaled 79, Central Michigan had 99 and host Purdue totaled 121.
"They ran very nicely, very tough, and really pulled away over the last mile," said Miami head coach Warren Mandrell of his runners. "Our guys ran the course well and the course was pretty darn tough and grueling."
Sovacool winning time of 25:55.89 was just ahead of Silver's 25:56.03.
The RedHawks also secured fifth, seventh and ninth places to round out their team scoring. Brad Untrauer was fifth at 26:17.05, while Chris Dennison was seventh at 26:19.48.
"Chris Dennison was our fourth man at this race last year, so he must love this course," stated Mandrell.
Michael Perry was ninth with a time of 26:23.59, while Robbie Fisher took 13th at 26:30.93. Paul Krebs took 18th at 26:36.56.
"Robbie Fisher has been our sixth man two weeks in a row," Mandrell continued. "Paul Krebs finished seventh, which gives us some really good depth."
RedHawks also posting times were Ryan Dezso at 27:00.00; Adam Martin at 27:13.77; Ben Famous at 27:32.69; Matt Carney at 27:52.17; Mike Fakler at 28:18.02 and Mitch Huesmann at 28:21.86.
Miami is now two-for-two, winning both of their first two meets.
The RedHawks will next compete at the University of Tennessee Invitational in Maryville, Tenn. on Sept. 19 at 6:15 p.m. CT.
